About 4K

Mount Horeb Area School District provides 4K programming through a community-collaborative model that builds on local resources to support the emotional, educational, social, and physical well-being of children.

Through strong district partnerships, MH4K ensures every classroom is led by a highly qualified, DPI-licensed teacher using a consistent, developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum aligned with the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards, while also offering family outreach opportunities and optional wrap-around childcare at select sites.

New Families

Eligibility

Children must:

Turn four years old on or before September 1 of the upcoming school year
Reside in the Mount Horeb Area School District (or apply through open enrollment)
Attend 4K for one year, immediately preceding kindergarten
No early admissions

Five-year-olds who have not attended 4K previously may be eligible, with approval.

How to Enroll

Enrollment is open now. Please complete the application by March 15 to have placement preferences considered.

When enrolling, you will:

Select your top four site preferences
Upload required documents (birth certificate and proof of residency)
Submit the application through the district portal

Placement decisions are based on:

Wrap-around childcare needs
Previous enrollment history
Residence
Special programming needs
Transportation
Available openings

Final placement decisions are made by MHASD.

Steps for Returning Families

Log into your Parent Portal
Click the three lines in the upper left corner
Select More > Registration
Choose Registration Year: 26/27
Review and confirm your student information
Click Save/Continue through each section
Submit your application

Adding a New 4K Student

If your 4K student is not listed in Infinite Campus:

Go to the Student page to add your child
Then select Enroll this student

What Your Child Will Experience

MH4K instruction is grounded in the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and designed to help children learn through play. What may look like “play” is intentionally planned by educators to develop skills that children need for school and life.

Children will participate in:

Large group experiences
Small group learning
Individual learning
Child-selected activities
Teacher-directed activities
Indoor and outdoor time
Schedules, routines, and transitions
Snack time and restroom breaks

Program Days & Hours

Site Determination

Parents have the option to identify the sites and session time they prefer when completing the online enrollment process.

Site assignments will be based primarily on previous program enrollment at a site and need for wrap-around services. Other factors that are taken into consideration include (but are not limited to) place of residence, special programming needs, transportation, available openings at the site requested, and site occupancy minimums. Please see our MH4K Placement Standard Operating Procedure for additional information about how we place students at our community sites. Placement priority will be given to the enrollment forms received within the enrollment window.

*Note: While we strive to accommodate requests, we do not guarantee parents will get their top preference. MHASD will make final placement decisions.

Family Outreach

Family outreach is a core component of MH4K. We offer activities, workshops, and events throughout the year to support family growth and connection.
